Ostick + Williams were commissioned as lead consultants, architects and planning consultants, for this large scale mixed use development on Carnbane Way, Newry, Adjacent to the Newry River and the main Belfast to Newry Road the site, which is within a landscape policy area, is bordered by two scheduled monuments, Spring Hill Fort and The Newry Canal, and has existing steep gradients throughout. The resultant brief presented substantial challenges to the design team.
Ostick + Williams worked in collaboration with Archaeologists, Environmentalists, Traffic Consultants, and Landscape Architects to produce a design that addresses all of the complex issues arising through the design development process.
Extending to a site area of almost 16 hectares the development consists of a 10,000m2 foodstore and petrol station, a 10 screen multiplex cinema, restaurants, office accommodation, industrial units, housing, and a public park, all integrated into an extensive landscape and siteworks proposal. The scheme provides a comprehensive integrated scheme, which addresses the existing character and features of the site and make a positive contribution which extends beyond the local area.
