BIM

Building Information Modelling

Ostick + Williams are at the forefront of BIM adoption within the UK and Ireland, as evidenced by our recent award for ‘Best Implementation of Level 2 BIM 2016’ by BIM4SME and our achievement of BRE BIM Level 2 Business Systems Certification.

This is an accreditation of our business capability to utilise advanced 3D modelling tools and demonstrates that our standards, methods, procedures, staff skills and infrastructure is in place for strict compliance with the Governments strategy.

We regard BIM as a process for the alignment of technological advances in the design and construction sector with people, process, policy and management. With this in mind we have established structured company protocols and documented procedures that afford our organisation the ability to adhere to the requirements of BIM Level 2 maturity as led by UK Government Legislation.

Our BIM adoption and advancement is overseen by the BIM Manager in tandem with the Director of BIM. These individuals coordinate the effort by Ostick + Williams to embed BIM processes within our in-house project teams and ensure compliance with the BIM standards and best practice throughout our supply chain.

Academic links

As we continue to lead wholesale BIM adoption, O+W have formed a cooperative relationship with the School of Natural and Built Environment at Queen’s University Belfast through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP).

The collective aim of both parties is to share the resources and experience available and so conduct contemporary research into the collaborative BIM techniques and processes at the very forefront of industry.

This link is important to us as we consistently seek to enhance the value our services provide for our clients, QUB acts as a platform to test new procedures which are typically not yet available in our sector.

This has given rise to the newly formed MSc BIM Project Management course offered by the University, on which a number of our team teach. By investing in the next generation of BIM professionals we hope to drive the industry wide adoption of BIM and the push towards Level 3.

We hold a seat on the Northern Ireland BIM Hub Regional steering group, set up in partnership with the Government’s Task Group in order to raise awareness of BIM benefits and facilitate early adoption of BIM processes and methods throughout the construction industry. As such we actively engage with our peers in the construction industry, presenting case studies of our BIM enabled projects so as to demonstrate the potential advantages that can be achieved by adopting these new processes.

BRE BIM Level 2 Certification

Our longstanding commitment to leading industry adoption of BIM level 2 has been met with recognition within our industry. Most significantly the Building Research Establishment (BRE) have certified our practice as being capable of delivering projects as required by the UK Government’s construction strategy to BIM Level 2.

As an independent audit of our compliance with PAS1192-2, this demonstrated that our methods, procedures and staff skills are exemplar amongst the industry and capable of delivering robust BIM solutions tailored to the needs of our clients.
